I've tried to present some of my ideas on the always provocative political blog The Truth will set you Free. I wanted to make the argument that we need to understand George Bush's policies. We need to know exactly what he's doing in both foreign and domestic policy, but we also need to understand where it's all coming from.
I've wanted to argue that we have to pick one out of two main ways of accounting for these issues. One is along the lines of an economic explanation. He is the pawn or tool of our country's economic elites who are out for a buck, as I put it. They are willing to go through the trouble of not only creating and running their own companies and industries in order to make a buck, but they are willing to put out the effort to get control of and run the United States government in order to direct policy and events to favor their interests.
The other is along the lines of a religious argument. That is, we have to see Bush as a Christian Zionist who believes that we must clean up around the house because we should soon expect the second coming of Jesus Christ. That is, Christianity on their view, is not only responsible for the saving of souls individually, but also must fight evil wholesale alongside Jesus and his celestial armies.
I wanted to lay out a rough argument about how this goes on this political blog and see what responses I'd receive. The first attempts might be crude. But, the argument will get better in the telling, reconsideration, and retelling.
