The brilliant thing about Karamazov’s account of reality is it suggests that instead of our needing to come up with an argument that says, perhaps, this is how you gather forces to free the people, or overthrow the Inquisitor, what you must do is wake up. There should be an argument that shows everyone involved that the terms they’ve been using to understand themselves and their world are part of the dream instead of what’s real.
So too, instead of finding some argument that will save the kids from the bully, like, getting them all to work together to confine or eliminate the bully, to live free, (Karl’s option) you argue that no one’s role in life is set in concrete. They don’t have to be stuck on the playground. The goal of each and every act need not be survival at all costs, but the resolution of whatever conflicts are involved.
