There is a lot of dispute among leftie commenters about the electability of Ron Paul. One idea discussed is the perception that Paul is not electable because neither the Republican nor Democratic Party establishments will support him. The advantage and usefulness of a party establishment is that they help get one elected. It’s a big country and you need the people on the ground one’s Party provides to bring out your vote.
However, let’s imagine that Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination.
Despite my own thought that Paul represents the Confederacy in modern times, Like General Lee, he’s an honest man and attracts honest talented people to work for him. So, I am considering support for him. However, one of the coat-tail effects of winning a Presidential contest is that you get to fill up your Administration positions with comrades …usually of your own Party. So, even though the Republican Party establishment will work hard to see that he won/t win their party’s nomination, if nominated, they will try hard to see that he’s elected. Their thought, no doubt, will be that the Republican establishment in government positions would be able to change or undermine President Paul’s libertarian intentions when he’s in office.
The question for me becomes, then, if one votes for Ron Paul, who is anti-establishment, will we get an establishment administration regardless?
And would he be able to put together an honest administration that would do the things he’s been promising during his campaign despite the objections of both Party’s establishments?
